Just completed the Spartan Race 2019 with the ZA Team and wanted to share some thoughts fresh in my mind.
How we got started within 30 days
At ZA, we take our new year resolutions very seriously. After all the binge eating during Chinese New Year, many of us have given much sweat and tears to losing weight and getting in shape.
To keep the fitness momentum going, I just happened to spot the Spartan Race 30 days out and I shot a message over company chat to see if anyone was willing to join. After some noise, several leaders jumped on it, including our Chairman, CRO and CSO, and within the day, we had 18 sign-ups with a diverse range of age, shapes and sizes. I was charged with getting the team into their best shape possible within 30 days.
Being Different, Together
The Spartan Race for ZA wasn’t about just showing off our individual physical fitness. Frankly, for a few of the team members, the Sprint format would be a walk in the park. For ZA, it was about lifting the team, lending a hand to those that need help and finding the inspiration to break beyond the physical limits we set for ourselves. Warms my heart to see members of the team who may have been meek but with a spark of interest, suddenly rise to the challenge with a firm promise that together as ZA, we will get everyone through every obstacle (except a few that can’t be helped i.e. rope climb, monkey bars, etc). Everyone could approach each with confidence knowing a bit of push from behind or pull from above will surely get him or her to the next stage.
Hungry for more
As we basked in the light of accomplishment drinking our beers, conversations were already sprouting from the team about who we need to drag out next time, how we need to do the Spartan Super and even someday complete the Trifecta. Proud of the team and glad to say that we at ZA earned our Spartan medals. Glad to be part of the ZA team, caring about each other’s health, eagerly lifting each other to new levels and just making the whole experience fun! Let’s push harder next round! Aroo!
